Colorado Considers More Physical Activity In Schools « CBS Denver
if this passes it could be a step in the right direction. unfortunately , the state of Colorado does not require Physical Education and obesity rates (in children) in our state are on the rise. 1 in 4 kids in Colorado are considered obese. Recess is great and all kids should have these 'breaks' through out the day but it does not mean that the kids are being physically active. Go watch a recess at your school and notice the kids that just sit around or stand and talk or the long lines they stand in to have one turn and then get back in line again. Although recess is needed , with the fresh air and social time necessary in the development of children, they are not all getting physically active during this time. Seems this is just a way to look like 'on paper' that we are doing something to fight obesity but in reality we will just be letting the kids decide if they want to move or just sit around. . Would be great if on these recess breaks all kids had to jog or walk for the first 10 minutes before getting to free play.
